We're so happy you stopped by! We're a camp founded in 2014 with members hailing from Toronto, New York, LA, Australia, and more. Get to know us, our history, and ethos below.

MEET | SILVA | DAVEY| CAPTAIN | FORREST

A man of many names, and the reason #17virgins came to be.

Always one to follow his passions, Silva made his maiden voyage to the playa alone in 2013, camped in his car and ate canned beans and Oreos.

The following year, he convinced 17 of his friends to come join him in the dust, leading to the creation of our camp and name!

Since then, we've grown to include members from across the globe, always aiming to create an inclusive and fun environment for folks on and off the playa. 2024 will be our 10th anniversary and we can't wait to celebrate and get dusty with y'all.

OUR ETHOS

  • Everyone is welcome at 17 Virgins. We embrace diversity and encourage the participation of all campers, regardless of background or experience.

  • To maintain the spirit of gifting, 17 Virgins resists the substitution of consumption for participatory experience. 

  • 17 Virgins requires that the individual discover, exercise, and rely on their inner resources.

  • 17 Virgins is a place for self-expression in various forms. However, this expression must respect the community's welfare and the environment.

  • The magic of our camp lies in the here and now. While technology is a part of our lives, we advocate for its minimal use during our time on playa 

  • 17 Virgins is committed to a radically participatory ethic. We believe that transformative change occurs through deeply personal participation.
